Requirements for teen Road Test

Valid Texas Driver License (Restriction B)

Teens must be at least 16 years and held Learner License for 6 months or have turned 18 (whichever comes first).

Final date of 6 months is found on the back of Learner License and road test can be done any day on or after.

Learner license typically expire the day of students eighteenth birthday (renew if necessary before appointment date)!

Temporary paper permit is accepted while valid (expiration is found above the picture of temporary permit).

Driver’s Ed Final Certificate DE-964

This drivers ed certificate can be from any Driving school online or in person. It must be labeled “For Driver License Only” not for Learners Permit and transfer box cannot be checked.


The Certificate must be signed by the course instructor not left blank.

Impact Texas Teen Drivers Certificate (ITTD)

This certificate is a free video provided and required by the DPS. The student must watch the entire video, answer the questions, and print out the certificate. Certificate expires after 3 months and must be rewatched before attempting the Road Test.

Vehicle for Road Test

In order to use your own vehicle, it must pass an assessment to ensure it is safe and can be legally operated on public roadways. It also must have valid insurance.

You can use the school vehicle for an additional cost.
